What is Board Games in Funchal?

An initiative to promote board games in Madeira. We organize regular events to bring together board game enthusiasts and newcomers alike, focusing on more advanced and strategic games beyond typical party games.

We also organize board game tournaments, including official Carcassonne National Championship Qualifiers and unofficial Catan tournaments.

Our collection includes many games in English and language-independent titles. Printed instructions are available in English, and we provide brief training sessions on-site.

The People Behind It

A small team with a big love for board games

Katarzyna Javaheri (Kasia)

Founder & Organiser

Originally from Poland, living in Funchal since March 2023. QA Engineer and programmer by profession, board gamer by heart — playing since 2007.

Board and card games are a family tradition. Her grandfather was a passionate card player, and she carries a playing cards tattoo on her right arm as a tribute to him. Her brother, Adam, hosts weekly board game events under the name Gry z Prądnikiem in Krakow, Poland — it runs in the family.

Kasia's husband and right hand at events — helping with logistics, setup, and making sure everything runs smoothly on game nights.

Francisco (from Chile)

Tournament Organiser & Rules Expert

Joined the community in late 2025. Francisco brings expertise in official tournament organisation and is a go-to person for game explanations on the night.
